Collection: San Diego Padres
Founded in 1969, the Padres have won two NL pennants—in 1984 and 1998, losing in the World Series both years. As of 2020, they have had 15 winning seasons in franchise history. The Padres are one of two Major League Baseball teams (the other being the Los Angeles Angels) in California to originate from the state; the Athletics were originally from Philadelphia (and moved to the state from Kansas City), and the Dodgers and Giants are originally from two New York City boroughs—Brooklyn and Manhattan, respectively.
The Padres are one of the two MLB teams which does not share its market with another franchise in the four major American professional sports leagues, following the relocation of the Chargers to Los Angeles in 2017. As of 2020, the Oakland Athletics are the only other MLB team which does not share its city proper with another professional sports league following the relocation of the Raiders to Las Vegas, Nevada, though Oakland does share its market with other teams based in the San Francisco Bay Area (including those based in San Francisco and San Jose). During the 2020 season, the Padres became the only team in MLB history to hit a grand slam in 4 consecutive games, in their August 17 to August 20 series against the Texas Rangers. They are also the only franchise in the MLB not to have a no-hitter, having gone 8,020 games without throwing one, a major league record.
